Review: Maybelline "Baby Lips" Lip Balm (Un-tinted Australian version)

Howdy bloggers!
Not a lot of action from me lately, so I decided to put together a more detailed post for y'all!

Warning - there are SO MANY PICTURES in this post! :)

All over the YouTube and blog world I have heard rave reviews about the Maybelline Baby Lips tinted lipbalms over in the US. As per usual, Australia is desperately behind! Over here we have 6 untinted lipbalms in different scents - Anti-oxidant Berry, Smoothing Cherry, Energising Orange, Relieving Menthol, Cherry Velvet & Mango Pie.  There was also a limited edition "Protecting Berry" lipbalm earlier this year for NY Fashion Week which I managed to get my hands on back in February.

Today I went into three different Priceline stores to get 3 new scents (I say scent not flavour because they are flavourless) and the first two stores didn't have the ones I wanted. Priceline is currently holding a "3 for the price of 2" sale across many of their brands including Maybelline, so I got three new Baby Lips Lipbalms for $8.

Today I picked up Energising Orange, Smoothing Cherry & Mango Pie - I didn't see the point in buying both Smoothing Cherry AND Cherry Velvet nor Protecting Berry AND Anti-Oxidant Berry, and I am not a fan of the Menthol scent. In this post I will review each of them separately, as well as reviewing Protecting Berry (Limited Edition). If you're interested then keep reading! :)

SMOOTHING CHERRY

I was hesitant to pick this up because I am not usually a fan of the artifical cherry scent - I always think of red Starburst Fruit Chews.... yuck! However this scent isn't too overpowering! The Priceline I went to had testers for these so I smelt it, and I was pleasantly surprised. It is quite subtle and I can handle it. Those of you hoping for a strong cherry scent will be disappointed though.

ENERGISING ORANGE

This scent is also quite subtle, but I was disappointed this time. I was expecting a sweeter/citrus-y scent but this was rather dull.

MANGO PIE

This my friends, smells ah-may-zing! Tash (my YouTube partner) had this and I smelt it over the weekend and I KNEW I had to have it. It has a much stronger scent than the others. It is very sweet - definitely going to be a staple item in my handbag!

PROTECTING BERRY

I've had this for 3 months and it's been in my purse everyday. It has a sweet berry scent (which smells identical to the Anti-Oxidant Berry that is apart of the permanent line so pick that up!) and has been quite moisturising for my lips. I will get onto how it feels below.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These lipbalms are flavourless and colourless. They are a clear balm that add a lot of gloss and a moisturising sheen to the lips. They don't taste like anything at all. I've read reviews where people think they have a chemical taste, but I don't agree. To me it is a flavourless texture on my lips.
After having Protecting Berry I have noticed a slight pink-tinge to the colour of the balm. However I'm not sure if that is related to it being limited edition or just being used. It still doesn't add any colour to the lips.
3-month-old lipbalm compared to brand new
As previously mentioned, this adds a glossy sheen to my lips, but no colour.
Without any product:
With Protecting Berry on (and a smile!):
Overall I think these are great! They are moisturising for the average person, but if you have INSANELY dry/cracked lips I don't think these will do the job... at least not the ENTIRE job. I recommend the Lucas Paw Paw Ointment - I put it on every night before bed and it helps my lips A LOT!
These are great for on-the-go use & even fit in my purse! Although I like to keep one in my mini travel makeup bag inside my handbag.
One downside to these (and most lipbalms) is if you twist too far down, the twist-stick in the centre can make a hole in the centre (as shown below) so be cautious! haha.
I hope you enjoyed this review!
Have you tried these? Tell me your thoughts!
Love Krystal xx
  4. That's pretty much how the packaging looks like too here in Asia. I wonder why they're different from the ones with transparent caps. Anyways my sister uses this brand & she loves it a lot.
